2 killed in Chandpur road crash
  Date : 21-05-2025

Two people were killed and two others injured in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a rickshaw on the Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway near DC Office in the town.

The accident occurred around midnight on Monday (May 19), when a motorcycle traveling at high speed lost control and crashed into an oncoming rickshaw.

One of the dead has been identified as Samudra Mal, son of Monir Mal from the Baburhat area in Chandpur Sadar. The rickshaw puller was also killed on the spot, though his identity has yet to be confirmed.

Eyewitnesses said that two young men, identified as Rakib and Samudra, were riding a motorcycle recklessly toward Baburhat. They lost control and collided head-on with a rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. The impact shattered both the motorcycle and the rickshaw, with the motorcycle skidding nearly 30 feet before striking a pedestrian standing by the roadside.

All four victims were quickly taken to Chandpur General Hospital. The on-duty doctor declared two of them dead on arrival. Motorcyclist Rakib, who sustained critical injuries, received initial treatment and was later referred to Dhaka for advanced care.

Dr. Belayet Hossain, the attending physician at Chandpur General Hospital, confirmed the deaths. "Two of the four were brought in dead. They suffered fatal injuries and massive blood loss," he said.

Local authorities are investigating the incident.
