| MT Desk: The Jatiya Party faction led by Anisul Islam Mahmud is likely to form a new political alliance, comprising parties that had earlier left it. "Several other parties may also join us as discussions are going on. But the Jatiya Party faction led by GM Quader will not remain in the new alliance," Presidium Member Masroor Mawla told media. The faction`s Chairman Anisul Islam said the name and details of the alliance will be announced within a week. Mujibul Haque Chunnu, an executive chairman of Jatiya Party, said the Jatiya Party faction led by Anwar Hossain Monju, the faction led by Mostafa Jamal, and other political parties will join the new alliance. "Everything will be clear in the first week of December as discussions are going on with different like-minded political parties," he added. In mid-July, leaders of four Jatiya Party factions appeared on the same stage and called for uniting the Jatiya Party under one umbrella. The event was organised by Pallibandhu Ershad Smriti Sangsad in the capital on the sixth death anniversary of Jatiya Party founder HM Ershad. Anwar Hossain Monju joined the programme as chief guest. Leaders of Jatiya Party (Raushan Ershad), Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar), and Jatiya Party (Matin) were also present. The organisers said they came together as part of a broader united process on Ershad`s death anniversary. At the event, several party leaders sought forgiveness for their past mistakes, saying they unconditionally seek forgiveness from the people. On August 9, the Jatiya Party formally split into another faction -- led by Anisul Islam Mahmud -- following a council session. After founded in 1986 by HM Ershad, Jatiya Party has a long history of factionalism, having already split at least six times. The five other factions are led by GM Quader -- Jatiya Party (JaPa); Anwar Hossain -- Jatiya Party (JP); Andaleeve Rahman Partho -- Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP); MA Mukit -- Bangladesh Jatiya Party; and Mostafa Jamal Haider -- Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar).
