The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Tazul Islam, announced today that formal charges will be filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow, Sunday.

Speaking at a discussion organised by the human rights group Odhikar at the National Press Club, held in observance of the International Week of the Disappeared, Tazul Islam said, "We are determined to advance the judicial process."

He described Sheikh Hasina as the "nucleus behind enforced disappearances and related abuses." Tazul Islam predicted significant progress in the trials by December.

While investigations into 10 to 15 major cases of enforced disappearance have been completed, final reports are expected by June. He noted that many obstacles to justice have been overcome, though challenges remain in arresting all those involved.

The Chief Prosecutor emphasised that the tribunal is proceeding cautiously, ensuring adherence to international legal standards and human rights, and avoiding miscarriages of justice seen in the past.
