Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, said the next national election will not be held later than June 30, 2026.

He made the remark on Sunday (June 1) afternoon at a press conference on the Chief Adviser’s Japan visit held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, responding to a question about the national election.

The Press Secretary said, “The election could be held earlier, but it will not go beyond June 30. It may happen in December, January, February, March, April, May, or June, but not after June 30.”

At the press conference, the Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, said the National Consensus Commission led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will hold a meeting with political parties on Monday (June 2) at 4 pm.

He added that all political parties involved in the reform process have been invited to attend the meeting.

The Deputy Press Secretary said the Chief Adviser will inaugurate the second phase of discussions on reforms and expressed hope that these talks will conclude soon. He added that after the talks, a clear announcement about the July Charter being worked on will be made.
