  7 fishermen kidnapped in Sundarbans

Online Report : Seven fishermen were allegedly kidnapped by forest robbers from separate places under Satkhira range in the Sundarbans.

The kidnapped fishermen were Ibrahim Sardar, Abdul Hakim, Sujit Munda, Sattar Gazi, Akinur, Bulbul Gazi, and Arafat Hossain of Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district.

Humayun Kabir Molla, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, said the forest robbers, numbering six or seven, kidnapped four fishermen from the Dargang River and three others from Hogol Dokra canal and Kali canal in the past two days while they were busy repairing their boats and nets.

Quoting Sujon Munda, a fisherman who returned after paying ransom, Abdul Hamid Laltu, a member of Ramjannagar Union Parishad, said, ‘Munna Bahini’ gang kidnapped the fishermen and demanded Tk 50,000 as ransom.

Fazlul Haque, assistant forest conservator of Satkhira range, said currently, there is a ban on entering the Sundarbans which will end on August 31, and he heard from people that several fishermen were kidnapped.
