Desk Report: A delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami met Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli on Tuesday and exchanged views on the country’s prevailing political situation, parliamentary democracy, good governance and democratic progress.

The meeting was held at around 12:30pm at Baridhara in the capital in a cordial atmosphere.

The Swiss delegation was led by Ambassador Reto Renggli. Counsellor and Head of Political, Economic and Communications Affairs Alberto Giovanetti and Senior Political, Economic and Press Officer Khaled Iqbal Chowdhury were also present.

Jamaat’s delegation included Central Executive Council Member Saiful Alam Khan Milon, MP; Central Executive Council Member Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand; and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, a member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee to the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed Bangladesh’s current political situation, the functioning of parliamentary democracy, good governance and the country’s democratic development.

The Jamaat delegation shared its views and experience regarding parliamentary proceedings and discussed the challenges it faces as the principal opposition party.

The meeting also covered various issues of mutual interest as well as Bangladesh’s political and institutional development.

The discussions underscored the importance of dialogue, democratic practices and continued communication on matters of mutual interest, according to Jamaat.
