A sub-inspector (SI) of Dakkhin Khan Police Station was killed after being hit by a train near Airport Railway Station in Uttara on Saturday night.

The victim, KM Monsur Ali, a resident of Pabna, was a duty police official at the Dakkhin Khan Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Confirming the matter, Dakkhin Khan Police Station officer-in-charge Zainal Abedin said that Monsur was returning to his residence in the Baunia area of Dhaka by motorbike after duty at the Hajj camp.

His motorbike broke down while returning home. He, at one point, was walking along the railway track, talking on his phone, when a train hit him around 9:24 PM at Road No-10, Sector 4 of Uttara, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, locals rescued him from the spot and took him to Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Legal proceedings in this regard are underway, the OC added.
