  Mejba Elected President, Swapon General Secretary in BNP Lawyers & rsquo; Forum Manikganj Unit Election

Kamrul Hasan: In a festive and highly competitive atmosphere, the election of the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum (BNLF), Manikganj District Bar Unit, was held successfully. Advocate Mejbaul Haque Mejba was elected as President, while Advocate Mohiuddin Swapon won the position of General Secretary. Voting took place from 12 Thursday at the conference hall on the fourth floor of Building No. 1 of the Manikganj District Bar Association. Out of 215 registered voters, 209 exercised their voting rights. For the position of President, Advocate Mejbaul Haque Mejba received 119 votes, defeating his closest rival Advocate Jasim Uddin Ahmed, who secured 88 votes. For General Secretary, Advocate Mohiuddin Swapon was elected with 112 votes, while his opponent Advocate M. M. Safiul Azam got 93 votes. Advocate Subhash Rajbangshi was elected Senior Joint Secretary with 63 votes, defeating Advocate Jinnat Ali, who received 42 votes. Other candidates for the same position were Advocate Sharif Uddin Mizan (34 votes), Advocate Anwar Hossain Molla (32 votes), and Advocate Solaiman Hossain Sentu (28 votes). For the post of Organizing Secretary, Advocate Awlad Hossain was elected with 109 votes, defeating Advocate Saiful Islam Shahid, who got 41 votes. Among other candidates, Advocate Rezaul Karim Reza received 28 votes, and Advocate Bazlur Rahman got 25 votes. Earlier, Advocate Tofazzal Hossain was elected Senior Vice President unopposed. After the counting of votes, Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Azad Hossain Khan announced the results. Election Commission members present included Advocate A.F.M. Nurtaaz Alam Bahar, PP, Advocate Abdul Alim Monowar, Advocate Abdul Awal Khan, Advocate Humayun Kabir, and associate members Advocate Nazrul Islam and Advocate Abdul Alim Bhuiyan. Before the election, a conference was held with Advocate Mohammad Ali, Joint Secretary General of the BNP Lawyers’ Forum Central Committee, as Chief Guest, and Advocate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan, Central Publicity Secretary, as Special Guest. The conference was presided over by Advocate Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan Farid, Convener of the District Lawyers’ Forum, and conducted by Advocate Mohiuddin Swapon, Member Secretary of the District Committee and newly elected General Secretary. President-elect Advocate Mejbaul Haque Mejba said, “This victory is a reflection of the unity of nationalist lawyers in Manikganj and their unwavering commitment to democracy. We believe that the BNP-led nationalist ideology is the only path to uphold the dignity of the legal profession and establish the rule of law in the country. We will remain uncompromising in carrying out this responsibility.” General Secretary-elect Advocate Mohiuddin Swapon stated, “We will strengthen and energize the activities of the Lawyers’ Forum to play a leading role in the democratic movement. Under the guidance of Acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, we will keep the lawyers united and raise our voice against injustice and impunity.” Advocate A.F.M. Nurtaaz Alam Bahar, PP, remarked, “This election has proved that nationalist lawyers are now more united, organized, and conscious than ever before. I firmly believe the new leadership will further consolidate the foundation of the BNP and the nationalist movement in Manikganj.”
