Khelafat Majlis protests nationwide, demands withdrawal of `Anti-Sharia` property transfer amendment bill

Party leaders say rushed law hurts religious sentiments of Muslim majority
Desk Report: Khelafat Majlis staged protest rallies in the capital and across the country on Friday, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the controversial Property Transfer (Amendment) Bill-2026 passed in Parliament, alleging it contradicts Islamic Sharia.

The Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the party organized a post-Jumma protest rally and rally at the North Gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Khilafat Majlis Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Abdul Qader said the amendment to the property transfer law ignored Sharia.

“Any law concerning important public issues must prioritize Islamic values. Law is meant to ensure people’s rights and security,” he said.

He said matters like property transfer, hiba and inheritance are sensitive for Muslims. “Enacting any law ignoring Islamic Sharia provisions on these issues will create instability in this Muslim-majority society. The government, in a hurry, got this amendment bill passed in Parliament and hurt the religious sentiments of the majority people.”[gift]

Dr. Qader questioned the motive behind the rushed passage of the bill and said “the Law Minister must answer to whom he wanted to please by pushing this bill through.”

He placed three demands to the government:
1. Withdraw the controversial law immediately
2. Show respect to people’s religious sentiments
3. Review the bill thoroughly with Sharia experts and Ulama and take public opinion openly

Presided over by Khilafat Majlis Dhaka Metropolitan South President Professor Mawlana Azizul Haque, other speakers at the rally included Naib-e-Amir Mawlana Sakhawat Hossain, Mawlana Ahmad Ali Kasemi, Joint Secretary General Muhammad Muntasir Ali, Central Organizing Secretary Advocate Mizanur Rahman, Professor Kazi Minhajul Alam, and Dhaka Metropolitan North President Mawlana Saifuddin Ahmad Khandaker.

Speakers alleged that the Property Transfer (Amendment) Bill-2026 passed in the Jatiya Sangsad undermines Islamic inheritance laws and will create confusion and conflict within families.

The protestors marched through nearby streets after Jumma prayers, carrying banners and chanting slogans demanding the repeal of the law.

Khilafat Majlis said similar protest programmes were held in other districts across the country on Friday.
