Police hold awareness meeting in Bhola’s Shibpur to curb drugs, eve-teasing and child marriage

Bhola Correspondent: Bhola District Police on Saturday organised a public awareness and exchange meeting at the Shibpur Union Parishad office in Bhola Sadar upazila, focusing on preventing drug abuse, eve-teasing and child marriage.

The meeting began at 10am with recitation from the Holy Quran. Bhola Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Shahidullah Kawsar, PPM (Bar), attended the programme as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, the SP highlighted the serious social and personal consequences of drug abuse, eve-teasing and child marriage. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts involving families, educational institutions and people from all sections of society to tackle these problems effectively.

“Police alone cannot prevent drugs, eve-teasing and child marriage. Active cooperation and awareness among the people are essential,” he said.

The SP said the district police would continue to stand beside the people and called for stronger cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities to improve the overall law and order situation.

Emphasising the importance of mutual trust and cooperation between police and citizens, he said, “If police and the people work together, it is possible to eliminate crime from society and ensure a safe and peaceful environment.”

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and take preventive measures before crimes occur. He called upon them to promptly inform police about incidents or information related to drug abuse, eve-teasing, child marriage and other social crimes.

Later, the SP listened to various problems, complaints and suggestions raised by local residents and assured them that necessary measures would be taken to address their concerns.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Sohan Sarker, PPM; Officer-in-Charge of Bhola Sadar Model Police Station Mohammad Monirul Islam; and Officer-in-Charge of the District Detective Branch (DB) Md Emdadul Haque were also present at the meeting.

Local elected representatives, community leaders, teachers and students, people from different professions, and journalists from print and electronic media also attended the programme.
